Being naive and vulnerable to the world, you need someone to guide and protect you against people who would dare manipulate you. At first, Castiel was unsure how to act around you, surprised that you still have a lot you don't know. He takes it that he's responsible in teaching you things you haven't known about the city and humans in general—information the God of Lightning couldn't provide as he didn't mingle with his subjects at times.
